Parenting
Parent support services are community-based services that assist and support parents in their role
as caregivers. Such services can take many different forms depending on the strengths and needs of
the family. Services are to assist parents by providing necessary resources that enhance parenting
skills and resolve problems that promote healthy family development. Family members under the
parental support umbrella have an opportunity to grow and benefit from parental support services
in some way.
Parental support programs have been put into place to address the general population as well as
ethnic and cultural minorities, adolescent parents, kinship caregivers, and families facing domestic
violence, mental health challenges, or substance use issues. Resources are available to promote and
strengthen family bonds and restore our broken community. A range of supportive services for
parents are provided at Big Mama’s Safe House to include, but not limited to:
- Trauma Informed Care
- Educational Support and Training
- Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention
- Housing Services
- Food Pantry
- Employment Assistance
- Support for Young Parents
- Supporting Children and Families Affected by Parental Incarceration
- Referral to Necessary Resources not Provided at Big Mama’s Safe House
- Addressing Shared Family Care
